Code Pink: Pigs For More Pie   3 years 3 days ago

One thing I'm sure the victims of empire would like to have less of--bombs raining down on their heads.  But I don't think Code Pink can accomplish this, not even if they manage to win over all of the Tea Party supporters.

What Code Pink and the Tea Partiers do not realize is that the voters have no input whatsoever into what the U.S. government does.

I've been out of the loop so long I didn't even notice this article. Good article, but what ever came of the case? I may have heard but don't remember. Any word?

an end.

Denver: Know Your Rights Training   3 years 1 week ago

The main function of most Copwatch groups is monitoring police activity. "Copwatchers" go out on foot or driving patrols in their communities and record interactions between the police and civilians. Copwatchers hope that monitoring police activity will provide a deterrent against police misconduct. Some groups also patrol at protests and demonstrations to ensure that police do not violate the rights of protesters. One Copwatch organization states that it has a policy of non-interference with the police, although this may not be true for all groups

Military recruiter uses homophobic slur during ASVAB test in Durango High School: PLEASE COMMENT!   3 years 1 week ago

Last week at Durango High School in Colorado, juniors and seniors overheard an Army recruiter using a "gay slur and an expletive" while taking a military-supervised aptitude test. The incident has irked students, faculty and parents alike, leading to an apology from the Army's Denver Recruiting Battalion for the lack of professional conduct.
"It's inappropriate to speak that way in a public forum, whether you're in a school or anywhere else," remarked school Principal Diane Lashinsky. "It's especially egregious to be speaking that way within hearing distance of young people

wouldn't react any differently to a cop right now," said
Winfield, 29. "But those three? They are just bad at their job. I
don't want to see someone lose their job, but they did a poor job
of policing. That's the bottom line."

It was early Sunday morning at 1:45 a.m. during the World Series
in Denver when a fight erupted outside of the now-defunct La Rouge
Nightclub, at 14th and Market Streets downtown.

Housing Activist Arrested - Call In to Demand His Release!   3 years 1 week ago

On Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, just after noon, about 60 activists were arrested at the White House for failing to obey a police order. The nonviolent “Civil Resistance” action was the largest such antiwar demonstration at this particular site, since President Barack Obama took office. Hundreds more participated in the event, but chose not to get arrested. Some of those arrested wore orange jump suits and black hoods. A few had chained themselves to the White House fence. “Peace Mom,” Cindy Sheehan was one of those arrested. According to the press release of the sponsoring groups the action was carried out in order to focus attention on ending the U.S. war in Afghanistan and the U.S. occupation of Iraq; stopping the U.S. drone bombings in Pakistan;woeld economy and to demand the closing, as a moral and legal issue, of the Gitmo and Bagram prisons. The activists also want the culpable members of the Bush-Cheney Gang brought to the Bar of Justice for their role in sanctioning and carrying out the illegal policy of torture

I would say it's BS, and not even well-written BS.  But I don't think it fits the definition of spam.

Rush Is Right about a BP Horizon Terror Attack   3 years 2 weeks ago

Captain May;  You seem to offer all kinds of reasons why government agencies or companies like Haliburton would not be above sabotaging an oil rig, though you offer no evidence that they did.  As for your statement of agreement with Mr. Limbaugh that  "environmentalist wackos" might be responsible, you offer no evidence to support that claim, either.  Indeed, it seems unlikely that environmentalists of any description would commit such an act, in violation of their most deeply held values.

Much of your article seems to be about you.  Did you blow up the rig?  If you don't want to answer, that's fine.  You have the right to remain silent.

CNN and SPLC Attempt to Demonize, Blackball Patriots   3 years 4 weeks ago

I can't help but second Tina's thoughts here. I marvel at how people can be tricked into working against their own self interest. I want to marvel at that because if it is not true (if these people, this writer, really knows better and is not just a fool( then they are just evil. Are these people evil or misguided? I don't know but I have to ask.

CNN and SPLC Attempt to Demonize, Blackball Patriots   3 years 4 weeks ago

The people on the SPLC report, at least the ones you've named, are not friends of the majority of people in this country.  They serve only the plutocrats who fund your so-called movement.  As for John Roberts, he ought to be on the list, too, even if he is the Chief Justice.

You talk so much about the Constitution.  Please go back and read the first three words of it.  It does not say "We the Corporations" or "We the Parasitic Stockholders."  It says "We the People"; then it names the various objectives of the Constitution.  Later, it says the government, which is supposed to work for all of us, should do anything "necessary and proper" to implement those objectives, for We the People.

You are not patriots. You are either fools, crooks, or both.

Come Celebrate May Day!   3 years 4 weeks ago

Many have made other arguments. Ward Churchill makes a strong case that the British where driven out despite and not because of Ghandi's non violence stance. Peter Gelderloos book makes a strong case that non violence helps the state. The book is called How Nonviolence Helps the State.

I do not make here the case that this event should be violent and am not advocating it. I do make this point because I am not a supporter of pacifism as an effective means of stopping the state.

Come Celebrate May Day!   3 years 4 weeks ago

Non-violence works. Ghandi used non-violence to drive the british out of India and Dr. king used it during the civil rights movment. Lets keep that in mind. I will be posting an article on non-violent direct action as soon as possible. See you there and please be safe everyone.

We are working hard to resolve this issue in a way that will work for all. It is my hope that we can do it quickly. I do know that this is a tough situation for the collective.

We will have a meeting soon and I know Nathan is doing all he can to find a solution to the issue. Last night we for several hours where receiving spam at a rate of several per minute. We have captcha but the spamers have automated ways to solve the ones we have. These spams where being posted in all areas, events, stories, and comments and the moderation que had over 1,000 spams. I have been wading through hundreds a day to insure that comments and posts that are real can be posted in a timely way. Last night I spent 4 hours deleting spam before the site crashed under the weight of the attack.

Anonymous Posting Has Been Temporarily Disabled   3 years 5 weeks ago

However, we have been getting large numbers of spam stories.  Most of the spam I've deleted in the last few days was stories.

Anonymous Posting Has Been Temporarily Disabled   3 years 5 weeks ago

for the sake of comrades who use this site to post anonymous communiques, our position would be that the ability to post anonymous stories should be prioritized over anonymous comments.

not knowing what spam attacks have looked like, that might not be possible without a new capcha system... have you looked into capcha software used by, say, the anarchist news site?

Anonymous Posting Has Been Temporarily Disabled   3 years 5 weeks ago

This is unfortunate and a measure I wish COIMC did not have to take. I had logged off the site at around 5:00 pm and when I logged back on at 7:30 or so we had 629 spams in the moderation Que. I deleted spam for over 2 hours and we continued to get spam at a rate faster then I was able to delete it. At 10:00 pn when I called Nathan we had 800+ still on the que even though I had deleted 5 or 6 hundred in the previous 2 hours. The site went down under the weight of the attack!

Over the last few days i have deleted literally thousands of spams. Tonight's attack was a serious increase in magnitude and intensity over what I had been dealing with over the past weeks. I have to insure that comments and stories go up in a timely manor and that means I and other editors have to sort through all the spam.

I want to give a special thanks to the Red Pill for your help in deleting spam, Thank you Red Pill for your help.

Don’t Tread On Me! States Explore the Tenth Amendment   3 years 5 weeks ago

It is a pile of crap and you could not have used a better choice of words!!! Having said that this right wing Tea party BS is good for us to see on occasion. The arguments used by these tea Party people are flawed, as you point out, but in reading them people see how flawed there rhetoric is and it stimulates thought and debate.

I find that the philosophy of Freedman and his free market ideologist is at beast offensive and discredited. I wish we did a better job of discrediting these people. I thought your points where spot on Tina.

Don’t Tread On Me! States Explore the Tenth Amendment   3 years 5 weeks ago

I don't like the so-called healthcare bill, probably not any more than you do.  It will force people to buy a defective, capitalist product that many of us cannot afford; it doesn't control costs; and it rewards the very profiteers who created the healthcare crisis to begin with.  But none of that has a damn thing to do with the so-called issue of states' rights.

The bill violates human rights in two ways:  It forces people to buy a defective and unaffordable product, and it continues the barbaric practice of making healthcare a commodity instead of a right.  But it does not violate states' rights, and I suspect you knew that.

Health insurance, which is not the same thing as healthcare, is, by its very nature, a  matter of interstate commerce.  That is why the bill was vetted by the Commerce Committee.  This is fully consistent with the Constitution, though the process produced an inferior product.

As to your ravings about states' rights, we have been down that road before.  The states that holler most about states' rights are the same states that show the least interest in protecting the rights of their citizens and human rights in general.

"States' rights" have historically been asserted as a pseudo-legal argument to continue such moral outrages as slavery and Jim Crow laws.  But when these same states saw an opportunity to use the federal government to protect the institution of slavery, by demanding that federal marshals pursue runaway slaves into free states and return them to slavery, they showed no interest in the presumed rights of states to recognize persons as free and entitled to protection of their freedom by the state govenment.

In fact, states are subsidiary to the federal government and do not have any right to violate federal legislation. In joining the Union and ratifying the Constitution, they accepted this principle.
