How to Upload Multiple Images (it's not hard anymore)

August 28, 2008 by pablito

There is now another option that is much simpler. When you are creating your story, go down to "node images" and upload your images there. If you want to upload more images later, go to the "images" tab.
The options for introducing multiple images into a story on this web site are limited without installing unstable software, but this method will work for those patient enough to use it...

Authors get one automatically-resized image which is displayed with your story using the "Image Attach" section -- most people are probably used to using this already.

  1. You can attach multiple image files using what is misleadingly called "Video Upload". These will show up as links at the bottom of your article when it is complete, which people can click on to see your images (or whatever files you uploaded). This article has one attachment like that which you can see below. It is called INdyLogo.gif
  2. PLEASE make sure your images are an appropriate size to display embedded in a web page -- 800x600 pixels is probably as large as most people can stand with multiple images in a story. The normal automatic image-resizing function is not available here.
  3. Use the HTML <img> tag to refer to your images in line. For example I uploaded IndyLogo.gif and my HTML is: <img src='/files/IndyLogo.gif'> which produces an in-line image like this -->
  4. Use the links to your photos at the bottom of your article (or preview) to know for certain what to put into the <img> tag. For example when I cut and pasted the link below I got http://colorado.indymedia.org/files/IndyLogo.gif. If you abbreviate the URL by removing the http://colorado.indymedia.org your article still work if for some reason the web site name changes.
  5. You can use the same technique to place existing images on this site, or other sites, in-line into your article, however there is no convenient catalog of those images at this time.

Hey thanks so much for making this howto. I'll try and make that "video upload" thing a little less misleading.
