Farmworkers in Florida's agricultural industry face a human rights crisis. In the most extreme cases, workers are forced to work against their will in modern-day slavery. There have been 6 successfully prosecuted slavery rings, freeing over 1,000 workers in Florida in the last 10 years alone. More cases are being investigated today. The sweatshop-conditions that farmworkers experience everyday provide fertile ground for such extreme abuses to flourish.

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers--a community-based organization of Latino, Mayan and Haitian farmworkers in SW Florida--has led successful campaigns against the coporations that profit from farmworker exploitation and is at the forefront of the struggle against modern-day slavery.
