Anti-War Rally and Protest in Grand Junction

 On Sunday March 30th, at 2PM, Mesa State College A Voice of Reason, The Red Pill, Grand Junction Underground Action Alliance, and Grand Valley Students For a Democratic Society will be holding a Peace Rally featuring local bands: Fast Food Kings, Righteous Vibrations, and Gangerus Cock, and featuring two Iraq war vets and peace activists Jeff Englehart and Garett Reppenhagen.  Following the rally there will be a spirited march to the doorsteps of those who profit from the illegal war in Iraq.  

 Both Jeff Englehart and Garett Reppenhagen were recruited into the military in 2001 out of Grand Junction, they both went on to serve in the same sniper unit for a year in Iraq.  While they were in Iraq, Jeff and Gerett started a dissident soldier blog www.ftssoldier.blogspot.com, and began blogging their war experiences.  After discharge both Garett and Jeff became active in the antiwar movement. Garett and Jeff participated in the Battle of Fallujah and both testified to the governments use of the chemical weapon white phosphorous during that battle in a number of documentaries films.

Jeff and Garett are both active members of Iraq Veterans Against the War, and participated in the recent Winter Soldier hearings in Washington D.C. Jeff’s testimony can be seen here:

There will be free food, refreshments, and booths against the somber backdrop of around 4000 crosses representing each and every American solider that has died during the last five years of war in Iraq.  Bring your lawn chairs, voice, strength, drums and signs and join us in the spirit of community and resistance to end this war.

This is the fifth year that Western Colorado has come together together to say ‘NO’ to the illegal and unwinnable war in Iraq.  But this year the event has been organized by high school students, college students, and other youth.  The music will represent punk/ska, metal, and alternative folk.  The march this year will not be a symbolic lap, up and down North Ave., but will instead seek to expose and shed light on those Grand Junction companies which profit from the endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  More information of exact route and destination of the march will be release closer to the event.
