Rocky Mountain Tranny Roadshow, April 19-26

The decision to express one’s gender identity in its entirety can take a fair measure of determination and perseverance. The ability to share that expression in a way that is both entertaining and illuminating takes wit and skill.  The performers of the Tranny Roadshow possess all of these things and will soon be bringing their multimedia performance art extravaganza on a tour of the Rocky Mountain region.

The Tranny Roadshow has been traveling around North America since 2005.  Previous tours have included cross-country adventures, regional excursions, and the occasional event-specific showing.  The Rocky Mountain Tour begins April 19th and consists of a whirlwind 8-day performance spree at colleges, community centers, and other venues from Fort Collins, CO, to Santa Fe, NM.  Co-organizers Kelly Shortandqueer and Jamez Terry connect with community members in each of their stops to ensure that productions incorporate local artists and are shaped to be venue-specific.

Highlighting performances by a myriad of transgender artists including musicians, magicians, humorists and spoken word artists, an aerialist and a puppeteer, the cast consists of 9 performers.  Shortandqueer and Terry are among the performers, and each boasts an impressive resumé full of performance, community outreach and activism.  One of their previous joint efforts was founding the Denver Zine Library, which has been featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition.

Emily Brochin of the Philadelphia Weekly found that the Roadshow was "an intelligently diverse vision of identity ... demonstrate(s) just how rewarding and fun the exploration of selfhood can be."  The Bay Area Reporter called it "an edgy celebration of gender variant artists."  The Tranny Roadshow invites you to share in the celebration.
