Spring Time for Occupy by Phillip Reynes
Spring Time for Occupy by Phillip Reynes

Yes it was a beautiful day this Saturday. The sky was blue with just a few clouds and the breeze was nice, just right, as I walked to Lincoln Park. It was 10:00 and the march was not scheduled until noon and yet there where already people waiting, waving signs, talking, enjoying the beautiful morning, their spirits where high. Everyone had a smile. I looked around and noted with a smile that chalk was back. Yes, over the winter writing slogans in chalk on the sidewalk had gone away – due to the snow and damp – but it was back and the sidewalks where again covered. A sure sign the spring has arrived.

“Unite Occupy”, “revolution is the only solution”, and “elected officials are traitors and prostitutes” where scratched on the sidewalk along with a host of other slogans. Signs where being made and stacked up in preparation for the days march as people chatted and enjoyed the day and shared in a common purpose.

Everyone seemed to be happy and many where looking forward to the non violence teach in scheduled to start at 11:00. Though it would have been more accurate to call the teach in a direct action seminar, or so I thought after hearing the speaker – a native American with considerable experience.
After the anti-police march a few weeks ago the consensus among many there was that the police and media could not be trusted – especially Chief White. The flagellant lies he told at the press conference about that march had radicalized many present who viewed his bald face lies about protesters throwing balloons of urine as just more proof that he was a liar and his mission of reform a white wash. It is true he reduced the oppressive police prescience that had been typical in the fall but it was pointed out that a portable high resolution camera had been installed right over us. HALO, high activity location observation, a multy million dollar big brother cammera system that was acquired for the DNC and now used throughout the city to spy on us all was indeed litterly right over our heads.

After the teach in a brief GA was held. Groups like the Denver Anarchist Black Cross and Cop Watch where thanked and the rout of the march was explained. The Trayvon murder was also discussed as well as police issues. The March Marches where made ready and drums where distributed to all who wanted to beet out a rhythm as the protesters made ready to start the march.

The march went down Broadway and then turned onto the 16th street mall where it traveled to Glen Arm St. and then turned to go to the jail and justice center. It was a boisterous march. Many flipped off the police as they marched. There where no incidents along the way – perhaps like cockroaches the police prefer the dark to beet people as in the anti- police march of three weeks ago.

After a few brief speeches at the justice center it was all over. A good kick off with a good turnout for he first spring march. If I where chief White I would be concerned as the Occupy movement will only get bigger as the weather gets nicer. I wonder if he will send his jack booted thugs – Oh, I mean riot police – into the crowd as easily as he did a few weeks ago when there are two or three thousand and not just a couple of hundred?
