The Fuck the Police March, Arrests, and The Who by Phillip Reynes

The Fuck the Police March, Arrests, and The Who by Phillip Reynes

The Fuck the Police March (FTP) was attacked. I was there and saw no provocation. At least three where arrested. It was a hard thing to have to watch. People being hurt by , as one marching chant said, the army of the rich – the chant was "Police, the army of the rich." When the police ruched in the batons hitting and pepper guns pointed at people from point blank distances you could feel the violence they where trained to inflict. It of course could have been so much worse but for those hit, manhandled and arrested I guess that's a moot point.

I had seen the girl, in the photo above, at the front of the march. She was probably 18 but her youthful face and big smile and bubbly demeanor made her look young and add to the the fact that she probably weighed less then 100 pounds gave her the appearance of a girl. Contrast this with the 220+ pound storm trooper who is slamming her with his baton for the sake of it. The site of it made me so mad!!

Saturday started like any other Occupy Saturday at the park. There where the usual people there when Colorado Indy Media arrived at 10am. The Occupy the Moment people, a Buddhist group was there meditating and it was a beautiful day. Not much was going on at the park and people seemed to be taking in the fine weather. The Occupiers had had a tough week weather wise and the mood was relaxed as I made my way around talking to the protesters. People where just waking up and everyone seemed to have a smile.

Amelia Nicol and why it is Time for Another Revolution By Phillip Reynes

Amelia Nicol and why it is Time for Another Revolution By Phillip Reynes

It is time for a revolution, a revolt, an uprising. Government does not work for regular people. It appears to work quite well for big corporations, banks, insurance companies, military contractors, lobbyists, and for the rich and powerful. It does not work for people, regular people.

The 1776 Declaration of Independence stated that, “when a long train of abuses by those in power evidence a design to reduce the rights of people to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, it is the peoples right, in fact their duty to engage in a revolution.”

Martin Luther King, Jr., said forty three years ago next month that it was time for a radical revolution of values in the United States. He preached “a true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies.” It is clearer than ever that now is the time for radical change. Amelia is an example and so are the times we live in more generally.

Let us start by looking at what our current system has brought us, in a general sense, and ask if it is time for a revolution?

Over 2.8 million people lost their homes in 2009 to foreclosure or bank repossessions – nearly 8000 each day – higher numbers than the last two years when millions of others also lost their homes. We know well that the housing bubble was no accident. The economy has been stagnant for a long time and the former Bush Administration promoted the housing bubble and the home equity line of credit as a why to keep consumer spending up and mask other economic weaknesses (see the article by this same author here on the Pages of COIMC at http://colorado.indymedia.org/no... ).

Code Pink volunteer knocked to ground by officer

Only 2 arrests, but one stirs a tempest

Video shows a Code Pink volunteer being knocked to the ground by an officer.
By Jeremy P. Meyer and Christopher N. Osher
The Denver Post

[excerpt] Following a mass arrest of nearly 100 people Monday night, police watching Civic Center made just a couple of arrests through early evening Tuesday — but one of them brought immediate controversy.

In the morning, volunteer Alicia Forrest from the anti-war group Code Pink was arrested when police stepped in as a Kansas pastor tried to seize control of Civic Center to denounce homosexuality.

Carlo Garcia, a leader of protest group Recreate 68, had asked police to escort the pastor out of the park. Instead, police said Garcia posed a threat and arrested him.

On a video shot by the Rocky Mountain News, Forrest is seen questioning an officer about the arrest of Garcia, and he responds by knocking her to the ground and saying, "Back it up, b----," according to the tape.
